Outpatient Therapy FAQ

What is outpatient therapy?

Outpatient therapy is traditionally a one-on-one hour long session between a client and a clinician. Our clinicians use talk therapy, as well as other techniques, with their clients as they process and explore what clients are bringing in to counseling. Clinicians enter into spaces with clients by creating a safe, consistent, nonjudgmental and warm atmosphere. Our clinicians use a variety of approaches within their counseling sessions, some of which include but are not limited to: play, art, music, and reading. Interventions are tailored to fit the individual needs of each unique client.

Who can be seen by the ARROW Project?

The ARROW Project sees individuals throughout the lifespan: we work with children as young as three, and adults in all phases of life. We also offer family and couples counseling.

How long will it take to be assigned to a clinician?

Our general wait time is 30 to 60 days.  This varies depending on many factors, including current staff and client needs.  To learn more about the referral process, please visit our “Referral Process” page for a more detailed timeline.  If you or someone you know is in a mental health crisis, don’t wait – call 911 or seek other emergency services immediately.

Assessment Center

The ARROW Project Assessment Center is dedicated to providing comprehensive psychological assessments for children, adolescents, adults and families. We accept self-referrals as well as referrals from other healthcare providers and human services professionals. To request a consultation regarding psychological assessment, send inquiries to hello@arrow-project.org.

Group Counseling

The ARROW Project offers a wide variety of group counseling sessions to best serve our diverse community.  Below are our current groups, with a brief description and a link to registration.  All groups listed below are offered free of charge, and participants do not need to be a current client of ARROW.

Adult Substance Use Relapse Prevention Group

Lambert Office | Wednesdays at 4:00pm

This group is intended to support adults aged 18+ who are in various stages of recovery from substance use.  In this space, participants will find a safe outlet to express their concerns, experiences, and successes with substance use recovery, with the overarching goal to reduce occurrences of relapse in use.

Child Play Based Skills Group

Lambert Office | Wednesdays at 5:00pm

This group, for children under the age of 10, aims to create a safe and consistent environment that allows children to grow through the use of play.  Clinicians will develop a therapeutic relationship with each child to improve functioning, and to help children develop social, emotional, and behavioral skills.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Group

Lambert Office | Wednesdays at 5:00pm

LGBTQ Parent Support Group

Lambert Office | Fridays at 6:00pm

This group is intended for the parents of trans and non-binary individuals, but is also open to any parent who is hoping to learn more about how to best support their LGBTQ+ child. This group is an open and welcoming space to explore the journey of being a parent.

Neurodivergent Youth Group

Lambert Office | Fridays at 5:00pm

This group is an ideal fit for youth ages 12-17 who identify as neurodivergent, with or without a formal diagnosis. It is meant to provide an opportunity for youth to meet other individuals in the community who are similarly hoping to explore their own neurodivergence. Additionally, clinicians will foster skill development and provide psychoeducation around the ways that neurodivergence can affect us. Above all else, it is a place to celebrate neurodiversity.
